This week’s call was the last one, yet probably the most special. I had a hearty conversation with my mentor not only regarding our journey in tech but also the thoughts or setbacks we have. And that’s what this blog covers — some final tips which my mentor, Mansi, gave and the overall experience with this program.

The very first call after being selected in this program with all the mentees :’)

When preparing for interviews, there are days when you feel like no matter how many questions you solve or how many hours of work you put in, you’re just not getting any results. I opened up about these thoughts to Mansi, who said that even she had gone through this exact phase. She then shared her journey of prepartion along with one of her friends who would constantly motivate and push her to not give up and sometimes even scold her to solve the given question by EOD. She emphasizes that when you see people around you hustling and always working on something great, you get motivated to do the same hence it is important to maintain a good network with such poeple.

Some other tips which she shared:-

  • Ask for referals. They help in fast tracking your application and you have a much better chance of getting an interview.
  • When asking for referals, do give your brief introduction first and share a tailored message and resume for that particular company.
  • Keep applying — you might get rejected by the company but you shouldn’t reject yourself.
  • Actively check the careers page of product based companies — they get thousands of applicants so the sooner you apply, the better.
  • Stay connected with like-minded people and communities from where you can get to know about opportunities and other resources.
  • Never shy away from reaching out to people (even recruiters) and asking for their help — developing the habit of ‘effective communication’ will assist you in the long run.
One of our fun and productive sessions with Mansi :D

The overall experience with this program was very enriching. Every week I had something to eagerly look forward to and work for. I’m sure all women who participated in this program benefited very well and will share the experience with others as well. Being a part of this community itself is very rewarding since all the mentors here are so knowledgable, experienced and willing to help! If you’re not yet a member, make sure to get in touch and join Women Who Code Delhi on LinkedIn/Telegram/Slack.

That’s about it, hope you found my series of blogs helpful! Lastly, a big thank you to Mansi, for making this program a learning as well as fun experience for me and giving us so much of her time. And also, to the entire team of WWCD for selflessly organizing this program for us and giving us an amazing network as well. :D
